B2 listening practice
Last updated: Oct 30, 2026
B2 raises both bars at once: speech gets faster and more reduced while topics get more abstract. Exercises at this level prepare you for the version of English you hear in podcasts, videos, and real conversations — fluent, unscripted, and unforgiving.
Exercises to practice
What B2 audio sounds like
Fluent natural speech with dense reductions, more idiomatic vocabulary, and ideas that are no longer purely concrete. Segments may carry nuance and opinion, not just facts.
How to practice at B2
At B2 the gaps are usually nuance and reduction rather than core vocabulary. Use dictation for precision, then shadowing to keep pace with the faster delivery — alternating modes works well at this level.
Frequently asked questions
B1 speech is natural but stays practical and fairly measured. B2 is fully fluent — faster, more reduced, more idiomatic, and on less concrete topics. The jump feels bigger than the level names suggest.
Shadowing pairs well at B2 — the material is fast enough that speaking along at the same pace is real pronunciation training. Echo mode also helps lock idiomatic phrases into memory.
Reading helps — practicing helps more. Put the technique to work on a real lesson.
